Med Talk X Hirslanden

Dr. David Niedrig

Dr. Niedrig shared with us various essential insights about what could go wrong while administrating a drug: drug-drug interactions, overdose due to renal impairment, wrongful prescriptions and consequences of poly-medication in the ICU are only a few of preventable complications. Our speaker concluded the talk by highlighting its importance during the discussion of an interesting real-life case.

Apart from that, Dr. Niedrig briefly discussed fascinating topics like pharmacogenomics panel testing, pharmacoepigenetics, data warnings, observational and randomised trial studies and many more.

We are proud and grateful for this MedTalk, hosted by a speaker who is truly passionate about what he does, who managed through his presentation to convey this passion to the public! This is the kind of motivation we are all looking for!

A huge thanks to our eloquent speaker Dr. David Niedrig, a Medication Safety and Drug Data Expert at Hirslanden Group.

The Hirslanden Private Hospital Group is the largest medical network in Switzerland. Such a big network requires qualified personnel, just like our speaker, who is dedicated to advancing medication safety and minimizing errors, which have enormous consequences both for the patient and the hospital with its care providers: the dreadful scenario of the incorrect administration of drugs includes the prolonged and avoidable suffering for the patient, the loss of valuable ICU (intensive care unit) bed disposability of a hospital, and near-burnout experiences and feeling of remorse for the physician and the other care providers.

Dr. David Niedrig, a pharmacist by training with a vocation and a deep understanding and interest for drugs and their correct administration, after sharing with us his life journey, during his talk dove especially into the topic of the role of the clinical pharmacist in the hospital environment, which is especially prone to inaccuracies and miscalculations regarding the drugs.
